Update on Brooke's School Incident

Yesterday, the small group of students who remained and the staff were allowed back in the school after the bomb dogs completed their sweep of the building.
The student who incited this threat was discovered through the security camera videos and admitted responsibility. He will be charged and suspended from school.  I hope he also gets the help he needs.
It was NOT the best of days...

  1. I am so glad it was merely a threat and no-one got hurt. Even so, the scare that was caused is bad enough.

My parents´ home was burgled several years ago. The material loss, we could deal with. They took some things that had sentimental value, which sucked, but in the end, memories are in our hearts and not in things. The worst part of the experience was that the burglars took away our feeling of security, being safe in our own home. It was like losing the ground under our feet. While this is long enough ago now not to be as bad as it was, I can relate to that awful feeling of being not only vulnerable, but also actually threatened. Especially since in recent years, there were two instances of amok runners in German schools - one really bad one in Winnenden, where my best school friend was teaching at the time. There were two schools next to each other and my friend was lucky to be in the one the shooter did not go into. And the other one in the vocational school where my dad used to teach (he´s retired now). The guy came in with a knife, set fire in the corridors and attacked a teacher who tried to calm him down. I know my dad would have tried the same, had he still been there. It was terrible seeing those things in the news, and even though my dad and friend were both safe, it´s like lightning, or a rock, striking right next to you. Incredibly scary.

Brooke is an incredibly brave woman. I am glad she is safe.

    1. Oh my, Yukari...you do totally understand...My family homestead was also burglarized many years ago and the feeling of being violated stayed with all of us for many years. The school situations are becoming way too frequent and indeed, unsettling. Brooke thanks you for your kind words....Thank you for commenting!

  2. It is good to hear that all was resolved, although what a truly terrible experience and one I hope will never happen again. That child certainly needs some kind of help and I hope that he gets it.

I too have had the unfortunate experience of being burgled and in the end we moved as we just couldn't bear to stay where we were. A lot of very personal stuff of my husband's was taken - his life's work essentially and it took a long time to get over.
