These Are NOT Those Days

Remember when we all played school and when we did, there was never a thought about bombs or shooters.
This morning, Brooke texted me there had been some kind of a threat made at her high school...she is a math teacher...and the whole student body and staff had been moved to the middle school gym, which is located just up the hill from her school.  As of five minutes ago, the high school was still being swept for bombs...it was a bomb threat...and "bomb" dogs were being dispatched from about an hour away.  Many parents have picked up their children, but my daughter is still in the gym with the remaining students, waiting for the all clear.
As is always the case, this is a very close knit community where the present day atmosphere of violence would not be expected to rear its ugly head.
Today's threat goes beyond a prank to disrupt the school day.  It sends a wave of fear through all of us because we know what "can" happen.
My heart aches for today's youth who don't know what it feels like to be totally safe...anywhere.
~I will keep you posted~
