Lewis' Columbus Day

Hitty Rose thinks Lewis' new raft is very nice and is impressed he built it all by himself.

Lewis explains he built the raft to celebrate Columbus Day.  To honor the great explorer, Lewis is going to sail his raft across Friendly Pond and pretend he is Columbus.  But instead of discovering America, Lewis is going to discover Hittyville!

Hitty Rose thinks that is the best of ideas and will meet him at Friendly Pond later to see him off!

Later...
Oh no!  Friendly Pond is closed due to Leaf Falling Week.  Every year a net is spread over the pond to keep the many leaves from clogging up the pond.
Lewis is devastated!

Lewis wonders what Christopher Columbus would have done if the Atlantic Ocean was closed on the day he planned to set sail with his three ships.

Hitty Rose is certain Mr. Columbus would have had a Plan B.

After putting their heads together...
Lewis and Hitty Rose are quite happy with their Plan B.
The Hittyville Friends are imagining Christopher Columbus is sailing for a new land and have all kinds of adventures planned for him when he crosses Tree Stump Pond!

Motto of this story....Have a Plan B.
