Grandpa Walton's Blueberry Bush

Hello Friends!  John Boy Walton here.
This has been a wonderful day on Walton's Mountain.
I am sure each one of my sisters and brothers will remember this adventure for a very long time.

It all began when Mary Ellen saw three berry picking baskets in the kitchen this morning and started complaining.  Elizabeth, on the other hand, was thrilled!  Berry picking means berry eating in this family.

Grandma told the girls Grandpa's mouth has been watering for some fresh blueberry pie and they should ask him about his special blueberry bush.

At the Lumber Mill...
Grandpa saw Mary Ellen and Elizabeth carrying three berry picking baskets and knew that meant only one thing...BLUEBERRY PIE!

Grandpa told my sisters it was finally time to divulge the location of his secret blueberry bush to the ENTIRE family.

Daddy told me to go ahead and take his truck and enjoy the the blueberry bush experience just like he did many years ago.

News spreads like wildfire in the Walton household.
Mary Ellen was overjoyed with the prospect of help and thanked Jim Bob, Ben, Erin, and Jason in advance for their assistance.

My brothers and sister laughed and told Mary Ellen they were helping because Grandma said they could eat as many blueberries as they wished as long as they brought home THREE full baskets of the sweet, ripe fruit.

Later...
Grandpa explained to all of us this bush was here when he was a little boy and the blueberries have always been the biggest and best on all of Walton's Mountain.
Grandpa made us swear then and there to NEVER share the bush's location with anyone!

Later...
With full bellies and sore arms, we all headed back home to hand over our three baskets to Grandma and Mama so they could bake some blueberry pies.

As you can see, we pretty much picked every blueberry on the bush.
Elizabeth did confide in me she left several sweet treats for her bird friends at the very bottom of the bush.

And then...
Grandma is always amazed at how each blueberry pie holds exactly one basket of berries.  Grandma is also relieved she won't have to hear Grandpa go on and on about his secret blueberry bush blueberry pie any longer.

So...my Friends...I need to get downstairs.  I don't want to be late for supper because the penalty for tardiness is NO dessert!

~Until next time~
