Hittyville's Groundhog Day

Mama and Papa Gnome are wondering if the Happy River Friends have seen Groundhog this morning...It is Groundhog Day in Hittyville and everyone is eager to know if there will be 6 more weeks of winter.

 Not far away...
Peter and Johanna are looking for Groundhog to ask him if he has seen his shadow.

Johanna hears a noise coming from the Hittyville Hot Air Balloon Gondola.

Why...it is Groundhog and he is crying!

Groundhog has been greatly frightened!  This happens almost every February 2nd...

Groundhog explains most Hittyville Friends think when he sees his shadow...he hides in his homestead for 6 weeks because seeing his shadow is a sign there will be 6 more weeks of winter.
Actually...Groundhog is just plain scared of his shadow and goes into hiding!

Groundhog doesn't want his Hittyville Friends to know he is just one big scaredy Groundhog and seeing his shadow has nothing to do with the weather forecast.
Johanna has an idea.

Later...
Peter and Johanna wonder if Groundhog may take sanctuary in Beaver's homestead for the next 6 weeks or so.

After hearing Groundhog's sad tale...Beaver happily agrees to help his River Friend.

Later at the Hittyville Gazette...
Agatha has just received a call from the Gnome Forest with the big news Groundhog HAS seen his shadow...which as all the Hittyville Friends know...means 6 more weeks of winter.

Bob sure wishes Hittyville could have a public Groundhog Day ceremony like other towns.  Hittyville's Groundhog obviously has some shyness issues.

Maybe next Groundhog Day Jimmy will get a photograph of Hittyville's elusive Groundhog.

Back at the Gnome Homestead...
Peter tells Johanna he called the Hittyville Gazette with Groundhog's forecast.

Peter feels a bit guilty about misleading his Hittyville Friends.

Johanna tells her brother to consider Hittyville's Groundhog Day an Urban Legend of sorts.
~A little make-believe is good for the soul every now and then~

Happy Groundhog Day from all the Hittyville Friends!
