And The Preparation Goes On

Joe just keeps on keepin' on!
Thank you so much, dear husband...

The middle part of this board is soft enough to use as a bulletin board.

Red and Grey...Can you guess what's coming next?
Remember, we live in Ohio!

I am sure Brooke's students will like this board.

Slowly, but surely...

Tuesday So Far

Early this morning, I saw our beloved...yes, I said beloved...Sunflower enjoying her breakfast.  Our sweet groundhog lives in a field which has been left to Nature and she is a joy to watch.

I checked on Joe's progress on the Walton Homestead and did a bit of my Happy Dance!

During my morning tea, I "made" the living room curtains.

Later...
Brooke deemed this day School Supplies Shopping Day and suggested we have lunch at Rockne's in Strongsville...not far from the teacher's store.
I had the BEST salad in the Universe!!!

This store has tons of fascinating materials for teachers and non-teachers alike.

I can't wait to make this!

This "sculpture" should be tons of fun to create!

While Brooke continued to shop, I returned to the car to read my latest Kindle download on my iPad.
I am totally loving this enchanting little story!

I am now home thinking about dinner and working at Brooke's school for a bit after dinner...and wondering if we are going to be seeing some thunderstorms tonight...It is extremely humid right now.

I so love the everyday-ness of life.

Around Hittyville's Friendship Pond

Grandpa Hardy and his grandson, Rusty, are admiring the first blossoms of the newly "planted" pond plants.

Rosie is more interested in finding out what happened to the Hittyville Frogs who used to live in Friendship Pond.  They disappeared about a month ago and no one seems to know where they went or why they left.

Rosie can't even get the Pond Fish to help her solve the mystery.
They seem as puzzled as everyone else.

Lewis and Hitty Rose are going to have their picnic lunch on Friendship Rock today.

The Gnome Fairy is making sure the hummingbird feeders are in good working order.  Sometimes little bees get stuck in the holes trying to get a taste of the sweet nectar.

The Gnome Mice are inspecting all the new myrtle plants and are thrilled the little purple flowers are starting to bloom.
No plant food is needed here today.

Sheriff Andy just heard a rumor there is a band of Merry Friends living in the Hittyville Forest with a leader by the infamous name of Robin Hood.
Watching out for pirates has been the only real concern Sheriff Andy has had in Hittyville...until now.
Hopefully, the rumor is just that...a rumor.  Hittyville's Lawman doesn't need to worry about land pirates too!

Preparing For The Waltons

I have finished painting the Walton Homestead...Now Joe is going to put the house together for me.

Joe cut the set boards and I am painting them.
I am making two indoor sets for the Walton Family...the kitchen and living room.

This is just a small part of the landscaping.
I am going to make a scenery board for the back of the house.

The furniture and accessories reflect the feeling of the Walton home as seen on the TV show.

I love creating Hittyville Homesteads!

Making It Her Own

Brooke inherited some mighty dirty white boards...in the old days, we had chalkboards...and one section just wouldn't get clean.
I devised some attaching pieces of cork on mounting tape.

Brooke chose the cutest fabric and border...

With Joe's painting job and Brooke's decorating...It's beginning to look like a classroom...Brooke-style!

Abe Watching

Hello Friends!  Well, here I am looking kind of confused because I thought we were going to celebrate Oma's birthday today...you know...like we did on my special day.  But it looks like we are going to order pizza and watch the World Cup game.  Oma says spending time with me is all the birthday fun she wants.
Oma's real birthday was last week when I was in Jamaica, so I guess you can only have a cake and ice cream party on your actual birthday.
Poor Oma...

Well, since everybody is going to be watching the World Cup game and me, I will watch my fan.

Oh happy day!  Grandpa Joe wants to play with my cars and trucks...and ME!

This visit is getting better all the time!  Auntie Brooke doesn't seem to mind I accidentally ripped a page from the Pete book she gave me and Oma is singing "The Wheels on the Bus".

Dinnertime for me...I was actually hoping for some pizza.  I wonder when Mommy is going to let me feed myself...

 Tastes good!

Grandpa Joe is my favorite friend today.  He is wondering if I want to play with the blocks.

Oma is making all kinds of noise about me stacking the blocks all by myself.  She can't believe it and thinks my motor skills are amazing.

Oma told me no matter how blurry this picture was, she wanted to show the world how talented her grandson is.
Aren't grandma's the best?

I really made an impression when I put most all the blocks back into the bucket all by myself!
Grandpa Joe did help a little.

 Hmm...now what?
I think it's time to stretch my legs.

My time in the spotlight seems to be over...
Portugal has just scored and is beating the USA 1-0.
It would be nice if I could watch the game, too.
Maybe I will play soccer someday.
Now to figure out how to turn around since Mommy and Daddy are so engrossed in their game.

 I did it!!!

A bit later...
Well, we had our pizza party...I did get some crust and cheese...and Oma loved her colorful necklace and bracelet we got her for her birthday!
So, even though Oma's celebration didn't even come close to mine...I got way more presents...I do believe she had the best of times...She always does!

See you next time...
~Love from Abe~

Thoughts on The Seasons of My Life

Last week, I completed my 64th year of life.  I usually embrace my birthday with joy and celebration.
This year it was different.
I started to reflect on the fact I have traveled through three seasons of my life...each season encompassing about 21.3 years.

SPRING
I must admit, my first season was absolutely magical and wonderful...beyond words...especially in those childhood years.
I had a family in which I felt loved and secure and every single day was filled with joy and happiness.  Our homestead was a fairyland of sorts and my imagination had much to be inspired by.
Grandparents played an important role in my Spring and the offerings of the future were limitless.
Late Spring brought the teen years which were filled with thoughts of boys and music and fun.
But as the Spring turned to Summer, I watched four of my fellow Kent State University classmates shot down by the Ohio National Guard.
All of a sudden, life wasn't such an idyllic journey.
I was growing up.

SUMMER
My Summer was filled with thunderstorms.  I contracted leukemia at the age of 22 and my life as I knew it, radically changed.  I was a young bride and schoolteacher and felt the rug had been pulled from beneath me.
I was blessed with a remission and a faith that helps sustain me to this day.
My positive spirit rebounded and I lived each day with much gratitude.
And then...
My first marriage began to unravel before my eyes.
I buried myself in recovering from chemotherapy, teaching, taking up running, and started to explore my creative self a bit.
The marriage survived for a short time...and with the "okay" from my leukemia doctors, I got pregnant...only to lose my first baby during the first trimester.
The maternal instinct was strong and a year later, I gave birth to Brooke and Noah followed just nineteen months later.
History repeated itself and my marriage was over. I was a single mother in search of another teaching job and trying to survive from day to day.
And then I met Joe.
The rainbow which had started to fill my world after having Brooke and Noah, brightened considerably when I met the love of my life and God-given soulmate.
A new amazing family was formed and I could finally see blue skies after so many stormy summer days.

FALL
The Fall of my life has been for the most part, as glorious and colorful as a bumper harvest.
Joe and I found a century farmhouse with an unbelievable view and moved miles away from all we had known to make a new life for our family.
Brooke and Noah had the best of childhoods and Joe found historical restoration work, which is his gift.  I returned to teaching and became a director and teacher of a thriving preschool.
My creative energy knew no bounds and Hittyville was born and is the heart and soul of my artistic life.
Brooke and Noah excelled in school, both earning masters degrees, and are currently teachers.  But more importantly, they are the greatest treasures of my life, fantastic human beings, and my very best friends.
Noah found his soulmate, lovely Amy, and their family has extended to Abe...our beloved grandson!
I am now retired from the teaching profession and consider myself an artist in residence...at our residence.  Joe is still happily building things and constantly adding on to our unique and awesome home and farm.  Our family also includes many four-legged friends who so enrich our lives.
But with the richness of Fall, the beautiful leaves eventually turn to brown and slowly drop...
My fallen leaves included my parents and other beloved friends who had been part of my world for so long.  The barren branches have been extremely hard to deal with and I really struggled with the losses as part of God's plan.
With time, my faith has been restored and the beauty of my Fall Season remains precious and dear...yet bittersweet.

WINTER
And now...this is why my birthday was a bit melancholy.
I realized I am ready to embark upon my Winter Season and that journey feels a bit challenging to me.
Physical limitations...my post-polio syndrome...remind me of an aging body.
My many...well-earned...wrinkles are a reminder time does relentlessly march on.
But time has always marched on as part of God's plan.
I need to walk over that bridge into the next Season as many others have done before me and metaphorically speaking, continue to build snowmen, go sledding, ice skating, and use the whiteness of the landscape as a canvas for the creative work I still want to do.
There will undoubtedly be some snowstorms along the way, but the hearth of my home and the love of family will keep me safe and warm.
Winter has a beauty of its own and my next Season of Life will be discovering as much of it as I can...

I am reminded that the miracle of the Changing Seasons is after Winter, the cycle starts all over again.  There is no END...just REBIRTH.
I am not certain of what that experience will be like, but I think God left us an extremely huge clue by offering us the Four Seasons of Nature.

So...I am celebrating my birthday...rather belatedly...with my family later today and reminding myself I may need to add some layers to make myself a bit more comfortable this next Season...but I fully intend on enjoying myself and living each moment to its fullest.

Hello, Winter Season...I am now ready to begin our adventure together!

One Blog Only

~Hello Dear Friends of my Blogs~
I have decided to once again unite my family and creative life, Molly Mouse, and of course Hittyville, into one blog.  My very own family members told me trying to keep track of three blogs was confusing...and I am happy to oblige by keeping all my stories in one place.
My homebase blog will be www.hittyville.org
which is also
www.hittyvilleadventures.blogspot.com
I feel more centered already...and eager to share all kinds of stories and adventures!

Anticipating New Hittyville Friends

Miss Hitty and Anna Hubbard are thrilled the Walton Family is moving to Hittyville Township.  As Mayor of that Borough, Anna will do everything she can to make the Waltons feel welcome.

Bella and Thomas Merry just heard the Walton Family is moving to Hittyville.  They will be living in the old Walton Homestead which is where John Walton's great-grandfather lived years ago.
Bea is excited because the Walton's have 7 children, just the Merry Family, and there is a little girl close to Bea's age.

Rupert explains to Lydia, the Walton Family will be part of the Hittyville Family of Friends very soon.  He is most interested in the Lumber Mill they will be establishing.

Father Michael is overjoyed to hear Olivia Walton will be joining the Hittyville  Community Church's choir.  New voices are always welcome and Olivia's talent is known throughout Hittyville and beyond.
